A big thanks to all of you who attended our Tuesday night meeting-
The First Annual Kiestwood Originals and Classics Awards were given out and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves!
The coffee and pies that were furnished by Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters and Crumb's Homemade Pies were both delicious and both are HOME DELIVERED!
MEETING RECAP
TREES
City councilperson Angela Hunt is planning a town hall meeting with Oncor sometime in October. She would like members from Kiestwood and Oak Park Estates to come to her meeting and help "spread their passion" of trees to those who live in her district. This district includes downtown out to the "M" streets around lower Greenville. I will let you know when I hear from Ms. Hunt's office.
LIGHTS ON!
National Night Out for Dallas is Tuesday, October 6th. We will not be having a meeting on this night. But instead we are asking that all neighbors whether you are a member or not to keep your porch lights burning at night. Especially on this night, and every night of the year. It may cost a few more cents, but in the long run, it is worth it. Congrats again to all the neighbors who have recently been credited with interrupting a home invasion by being nosy and calling 911. Everyone needs to be a little more nosy these days and it does help our neighborhood.
HISTORY
If there are those in Kiestwood who are interested in putting together a "Historical Commitee" for researching in the beginnings of Kiestwood, please let me know. We would only need to meet about every two or three months and to show the research results that we have collected. My goal is to have a HUGE event in 2011 for the September meeting. This will be out 60th Anniversary and it will take that long to get everything together. Time does fly and before you know it, we will be saying, "2011 is only 6 months away!"
ANIMAL LOVERS
Southwood Methodist will be having a "Blessing of the Animals" on Sunday, October 3rd from 2 to 4pm
The community garden is now supplying delicious tomatoes for the restaurant BOLSA on Davis. This is THE RESTAURANT in Dallas as it has a really cool vibe and features organic and local ingredients on their menu. Congratulations to Rev. Connie and her fellow green thumbs!
YARD PATROL
Since the church will be part of the Old Oak Cliff Home Tour this year, we need to help spruce it up. So on Saturday morning, October 3rd from 9am to 12pm at the LATEST we are asking for anyone to bring their lawn mower, edger, electric clippers to doing some prep on the grounds. We are also in need of need shrubbery in the large empty flower bed that sits in front of the social hall. If you would like to donate some money to the church in order to buy some greenery for this bed and perhaps the smaller one near the entrance,
contact me immediately. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. This is an important opportunity for Kiestwood to help the church put it's best foot forward.
WATER WATER EVERYWHERE!
Kiestwood has been invited to create a "water bar" at the main ticket location of the Home Tour. This will be at the newly renovated Kessler Theater. We need volunteers to help staff the water bar on a two hour shift. That's all! TWO HOURS of your time either Saturday or Sunday to sell bottled water to visitors and to tell everyone about our great neighborhood. We will design a brochure that will feature the history of Kiestwood, a map, and also featuring homes for sale in Kiestwood. This is another great opportunity for all of us to help "sell" Kiestwood. So if you can donate TWO HOURS either Saturday or Sunday, October 10-11th it will be greatly appreciated. I will be there most of the day on Saturday and the beginning and end of Sunday. I want to tour also so I'm giving myself some time off to go on the tour. Please call me to sign up for your two hours either day. Thanks!
MY YARD, YOUR YARD
Since the home tour is the weekend of October 10-11, it is really important that we all put our "best yard forward" and make sure that our yards are mowed and edged, our shrubs are trimmed and there is NO GARBAGE ON THE OUTER CURB. The city will be picking up large items that week, so by Friday, October 9th there should be no garbage on the street. If you know a neighbor who might need help in getting their yard in shape, please volunteer and help them out as this helps all of us out. Like the old saying goes, "you don't have to be rich to have a neat looking property" (okay, I paraphrased)
DARRYL BAKER IS NOW HOME
Darryl is now home and I am sure extremely happy! So if you have a chance, stop by and say hello or give him a call at this number
214-333-0645
He is moving slow but with this weather, I'm sure he could use some extra diversions to keep his spirits up and to heal faster!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Mark your calendars now, our holiday party is DECEMBER 8TH
More details later!
I remember back in the 1960's when a lot of yards were really decked out for Christmas with lights and all sorts of decorations. I know that times are different, but one thing never changes and that is the Christmas spirit. So why not start thinking about doing something bright and cheerful for your front door, yard, or even the whole house! If you ever drive through Kessler, Highland Park, De Soto, or Arlington at Christmas, it really is a lot of fun to see what people do with their decorations. So have fun! The more fun we have, the more apparent to everyone who comes into our neighborhood that we really do love to live in Kiestwood.
