10 Tips for a Green Summer

1. Rinse glass bottles, aluminum cans, and rigid plastic cups, plates, and cutlery before putting them right into your City of Dallas blue bin.
2. Remember to keep food-contaminated paper plates and cardboard boxes out of blue bins.
3. Eat local! Make salsa and other party snacks from community garden or farmer’s market produce.
4. Keep plastic bags out of recycling bins and landfills by using a reusable shopping bag to tote picnic supplies.
5. Going out of town for the weekend? Conserve energy by raising your thermostat, turning off power strips, and setting lights on a timer.
6. Use reusable plates, cups, forks, knives, and spoons if possible.
7. Try riding bicycles, walking, or taking public transportation.
8. Turn off the TV and spend time talking with friends and family.
9. If you must use disposable plates and cups for your party, look for compostable products made from corn and other biodegradable materials instead of plastic.
10. Don’t have a free blue bin for curbside recycling?
